[EP 66] 127 Numbers Passed the Decimal Point of Pie feat. Thomas Dotstry

Hola Digheads! This week, we are joined by the mega talented improviser, rapper, and directorThomas Dotstry aka G Gekko!

Thomas is quite the interesting character. The onion that is his life is layered like a mother fucker. He’s been improvising all over the US for about 9 years. He raps under the moniker “G Gekko.” And recently put out his debut album “Office Politics as Usual,” which is available on iTunes and Spotify. Portions of the proceeds from album sales go towards autism research as well. He produces, edits, and directs his own hilarious rap videos. And, just to make it interesting, he’s an officer in the Navy and spends his time riding around in a nuclear submarine. Total cliché story, right?!

The Baltimore Improv Group was lucky enough to have him for 2 years before the Navy uprooted him to Connecticut. We’d say more, but BIG currently has a class action lawsuit against the Navy for their blatant thievery. And we can see why the Navy is being greedy, Thomas is one of the most generous people – on stage and off. He had a great impact on our small community and he’ll be greatly missed.

It was great talking to Thomas. We’ve known Thomas for a few years, but never really heard his super hero origin story and he was nice enough to tell us all about it. He’s an excellent improviser and an amazing person. We’re really going to miss this guy.

We talk about our relationship with technology and internet phenomena such as memes, trolling, Kuderna-ing, .gifs, Vines, memorizing pie, nuclear submarines, Ron Mexico, throwing people out windows, improv, and much more!

PLEASE rate, subscribe, and provide a nice comment on the iTunes!! It’ll help the podcast climb the charts!

[EP 42] He Crazy! feat. Chris Trew, Vanessa Gonzalez

Hola Digheads! This is a fun one! Mike Moran is still shampooing his hair, so Josh invited fellow improvisers and BIG members Thomas Dotstry and Megan Wills to take on co-host duties to interview improviser, comedian, rapper, air sex judge, The New Movement Theater founder – Chris Trew! Chris also brought along fellow improviser and member of The New Movement Theater, Vanessa Gonzalez.

We had a chance to chat with Chris and Vanessa while they took a break from searching for air sex champions all across our great nation. Chris is based in Austin and New Orleans where he runs The New Movement (which will be expanding to Houston). The Austin Chronicle once said “Chris Trew is out of his fucking mind.”

He tours often, performing a variety of projects. He’s performed at over 50 comedy festivals in North America. Onion A.V. Club saw Chris perform and said that he “boldly explores that blurry line between humor and performance art.”

During the interview, Chris shares the story behind his and (his partner) Tami’s split from a major improv theater they helped to found in Austin. Let’s just say that Janet isn’t the nicest person. From the ashes of that split, TNM and Chris’ burgeoning comedy empire in the South was born! Which is a wonderful thing because Chris and TNM provide stage time and a path for a variety of performers.

We also discuss a number of topics for this episode including, but not limited to: DIY attitudes, investing in local culture, air sex championships, improv, work ethic, wrestling, the dark side of improv cage matches, plane rides, and so much more!

Have something to say about this ep? Or do you have anything else Digression Sessions related / unrelated to say? Say it on our forum!!
